Week 3 - Extended Orthographics

Draw the plan first. Add in details such as cars. Draw half of the car and use the 'Reflect' tool to complete. Focus on the outdoor study of the site by minimizing details in the building's interior. Add in details such as ground textures. The thickness of the path lines indicate speed of travel, whilst the blue colour represent people and the aqua colour represents cars. Finished:

Week 5-8 - Hand-Made Model Progress

Week 5-6 The room I chose for this project was my bedroom, where I often study. I started with creating a plan and section drawing of my room and a basic paper model at 1:20 scale. (Please click on image for full resolution.) To give direction for my iterative models, I identified several issues with the space through a series of diagrams. Firstly, the window of my room faces towards the back of a hill, where another house is located. That house has a veranda that directly overlooks our backyard and the North-East side of my house. Diagrams of site plan, my house + backyard section and plan. This often means I have to take care to lower the blinds to maintain privacy, thus blocking the natural light from entering my room. Secondly, due to my bedroom facing North-East, a large amount of sunlight is received every morning. This is beneficial for the study area of my room, however it is too bright for the sleeping area. ...

Week 10 - Talking with Light (Project Presentation)

TALKING WITH LIGHT Video Presentation Introduction - Written Statement Light is fundamental to defining and influencing one's experience of a space. However, how do you increase the access of light whilst also dealing with privacy? The room I studied operates as both a sleeping and studying space, but is overlooked by a neighbouring house. Thus, in my project “ Talking with Light ”, I aim to utilise shadow and light to communicate the private areas (sleeping) and public areas (studying) of the room. A majority of photos are presented in black and white to further emphasise the concept of light and dark, without the distractions of colour. Throughout the project, I experimented with screens, facade skins, orientation and openings to achieve my aim.
